Whales are majestic and intelligent creatures, and we still have to work hard to save them. I spent time diving with whales and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Having these beautiful animals sing to me as I swam next to them energized me as much as any other experience in my life.

Remembering this experience makes me cringe at the thought that so many whales die every year at the hands of humans. Commercial whaling is still legal in too many places, and in other cases whales die by getting entangled in commercial fishing gear or harmed by pollution and climate change.

We must do everything we can to protect these amazing animals. HSI works tirelessly to educate governments and corporations on how inhumane whaling poses a risk to certain whale species.
