Demand for this soup fuels shark finning, and this cruel and wasteful practice must stop. As an avid diver, I know that even though they may not be the most cuddly animals in the world, sharks are truly stunning and peaceful creatures up close. In the last year I have gone diving with great whites in South Africa and hammerheads and reef sharks in South America, and I can tell you that sharks are greatly misunderstood. I need your help to support the movements in places like New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Canada to ban the trade and sale of shark fins. Join me in the effort to save sharks by taking the Humane Society International’s No Shark Fin pledge.

ANIMALS! Polar bears are under immediate threat from hunters. Some hunters in Canada are allowed to kill polar bears for survival, but some also sell their hunting licenses to trophy hunters. What kind of sick person would pay money to kill such a beautiful animal!?!?
Forced onto land because the ice is melting in the Arctic, polar bears are easy picking for the hunters. Polar bear sport hunting and the buying and selling of polar bear skins should be outlawed.
Right now, Humane Society International is urging the U.S. to submit a proposal that would give polar bears the highest level of protection from international trade – and we need your help! Please sign their petition and add your voice to the fight to stop the killing of polar bears. Read more

Every year hundreds of millions of animals are removed from their coral reef homes and traded alive as aquarium pets. More than 95% of marine fish and invertebrates kept in aquariums were taken from the wild. The collection of animals for this trade has devastated coral reefs in many parts of the world. Coral is not just pretty to look at. It also keeps the oceans healthy. So when too many animals are collected, it upsets the delicate balance of life on coral reefs and destroys the reef’s foundation. The United States is the largest importer of coral reef wildlife. Hawaii and Florida are the only two states that allow their coral reef wildlife to be collected for both domestic and international trade. So basically we are going to have to be careful if we want to protect the our reefs.
So what can you do?
Check out this handy dandy guide from the Humane Society International.
And check out the Earth Day promotion this month at Buffalo Exchange thrift stores. What funner way to support healthy oceons than going thrifting. Learn more here: humanesociety.org/buffaloexchange.

Animals! Canadian seals need our help. Every March in the Newfoundland region of Canada these beautiful and playful animals are slaughtered in one of the cruelest ways imaginable. As many as a few thousand fishermen club innocent baby seals to death and then sell their pelts. The Canadian seal slaughter is the largest annual slaughter of marine mammals on the planet and it MUST STOP!
The seal slaughter is cruel and wrong and the Canadian government should outlaw it.
A boycott of Canadian seafood is putting pressure on the Canadian government to stop the hunt. You can pledge to join the boycott, and also get a new Protect Seals iPhone app that lets you find chefs, restaurants and other food providers who are part of the boycott. Please join the fight to help save these beautiful animals.
Check out my video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpvue7NBv7c, and then visit http://www.humanesociety.org/protectseals for even more information, to join the pledge, and to get the iPhone app.
Some good news: this campaign will be the first of a monthly feature on my site that focuses on a different and very important animal cause. Please come back and check in with us next month to see how you can help! Read more
